To help you identify your cavy!

Self   Smooth short coat, Body all one colour, Large rose petal shaped ears, Large bold eyes, Roman nose, Broad shoulders, Short cobby body.

Abysinian   Body Coat has Rosettes in straight lines from shoulder to rump and from either side of the belly.

Himalayan   Smooth short coat, White body colour and  either Black or Chocolate feet and smut. (nose) Pink eyes.

Rex   Short very rough hair - should be bouncy / springy to the touch (feels like a brillo pad!) and curly.

Dutch   Most Colours - top half of body white, with coloured even cheeks and a straight line going all the way round its tummy (saddle) then colour should run down untill the tops of their legs (just below the hocks) then white feet.

Tort & White   Even alternate patches of Black, Red and White. ( should look like a patchwork quilt) all three colours to be on face.

Sheltie   Long haired, the hair grows back from its face and the body.

Teddy   Very similar to the rex although genetically different, slightly smoother coat.

Coronet   Exactly the same as the sheltie but with a crest on its head.

Texel   A rexed sheltie! Long curly coat falls in ringlets around the body.

Merino   A crested Texel.

Peruvian   Long haired, the hair falls over the face and all around the body. (not advisable as a pet as requires a lot of grooming)

Harlequin   Patches of Black, Cream and Black/Cream mix

Magpie   Patches of Black, White and Black/White mix.

Crested  Much like the self, but with a crest on the top of their head, (inbetween the ears) a pinpoint open crest.

Ridgeback   Again very much like the self except they have a line of hair standing up all the way down their spine. ( looks like a mohican!)

Tan   Black in body colour with tan coloured circles around the eyes and a tan coloured belly.

Fox   Black in body colour with silver coloured circles around the eyes and a silver belly.

Roan   Head is like a self, Solid coloured body with even white hairs roaning the body. roaning should start at the neck and should continue right down to the rump, but should stop at the feet. Blazes on the head are not acceptable.

Dalmation   White body colour with even patches of Colour on the body. A blaze on the head is acceptable.

Alpaca   Long haired, Carries the rex gene, which makes the coat curly.

American Crested   Very similar to the English crested, apart from the crest on the American crested is white.
